By Bart Sharp

A common strategy to deal with any addiction whether it be with alcohol, drugs, overeating, sex etc… is to try to control our use of the behavior of the substance. For many the way to success is forcing themselves not to use the addiction. What it requires from the person is a certain level of intensity to stop the behavior. It is using a force over the addicted part of us.

Although this is the most used scheme to solve the problem it is not the most effective and does not address the addiction as a whole. What usually occurs for the person is somewhere down the road they return to the addiction or they transfer their addiction to another substance or behavior. They are confronting their addiction like damming up a river but eventually the water will find a way to get through to the other side.

Looking at the definition of addiction gives us a key insight in resolving it. Addiction is any substance or behavior used to avoid a less pleasant reality that we are in.

The key is to long term resolution with addiction is the journey into the reality that we were avoiding in the first place. Finding where we were in pain or suffering in our past has most likely not left us. It is there recorded within our body being the trigger to act and repeat our addictive behaviors. The deeper we explore and resolve these deep memories that hurt us we take away the impetus to react to our addictions.

Of course the world of addiction is complicated. We still need to learn better ways to live our lives and how to make healthier choices. In addition, to find a spiritual strength and identity to rebirth are the joyful gifts we receive. You are discovering a new way to live. However the basis of long-term success with addiction is coming to terms with the suppressed pains the live inside of us.

Addiction is a behavior that is an avoidance of a less pleasant reality.

One of life’s challenges for many is addiction. In this society addictions occur in a wide variety of manifestations such as: alcoholism, drug use, work, rage only to mention a few. Addiction is a behavior that is an avoidance of a less pleasant reality. We are basically doing or consuming something that takes us away from our feelings.

In the text “Alcoholics Anonymous” it is stated the biggest reason that people drink is due to their resentment to others that they have not addressed in their life. AA has been a guiding light for many to find freedom from addictions. However, these tools only address the experiences in our life on a cognitive or intellectual level. As one person stated to me, “My dysfunction is stored in me at a cellular level, it is a long process of my body letting go and relearning.”

Using the new techniques from Access Energy Transformation addictions can be let go of quickly and permanently. Access is able to release the limitations of addiction energetically. Like the AA perspective Access sees the resentments or suppressed anger as a core part of addictions. In addition Access’ point of view is how the person has made him/her self-wrong in life or the self-guilt/blame as a huge reason why we become addicted to substances or behaviors.

What Access learning Facilitator Bart Sharp offers is guidance in getting in touch with the experience of our limitations as body awareness. Bart helps the people feel themselves and where the memories are actually stored in the body. Using the Access tools those energies are released in a dynamic way. Bart says, “It is a process of letting go of the emotions that we are hiding from as well as how we have defined ourselves as lesser than in our life. When the energetic memories are released we are not triggered to commit our unconscious addictions. We can go through the process of living without addictions easily instead of a ongoing confrontation with ourselves.”

Bart Sharp is an Access Learning Facilitator from Austin, TX. Through the years Bart has worked on variety of issues with individuals and groups. Bart likes the Access tools as they release people’s limitations quickly and permanently. Many people feel a visceral release of the limitations during the session. Bart can be contacted at heartofturtle@earthlink.net or at 512 809 6807.
